The best restaurants to visit between Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore adventures.
Pictured Rock National Lakeshore is an unmissable gem of Upper Michigan. Its only downside is the surprising lack of amenities nearby. The closest city center is the little town of Munising. And for a national park town, Munising is still pretty sparse. Given the limited options, here are the Munising restaurants where I actually ate!
Gallery Coffee Co
If you need your morning caffeine in order to function (raises hand nervously), the place you’ll find that in Munising is Gallery Coffee Co. It’ll be one of the few places that’ll be open early enough for you to stop in before you hit the trails! It’s a cozy spot with good coffee and some delicious breakfast pastries. A great spot for a quick bite before your hike or boat trip!
Falling Rock Bookstore and Cafe
This sweet little bookstore/cafe combo is the perfect restaurant for a quick lunch or dinner. You order at the counter and then sit at tables among the books. It’s nothing particularly fancy, but it’s exactly what you want when you accidentally took an eleven mile hike and are now craving a grilled cheese and a milkshake.
The Dogpatch
This is the place to eat in Munising on any night of the week. It’s a cozy homestyle restaurant full of diner classics. Again, it’s nothing fancy (most of Munising isn’t tbh), but the food is hearty and delicious and perfect for fueling up before hiking, or refueling after a long day. This restaurant is extremely popular, so there’ll probably be a line. But don’t let that put you off. There’s tons of seating inside, so the line will move quickly.
Eh! Burger
This place has a fast food feel, but it packs a punch! You can get a classic burger if that’s what you’re after, but their menu boasts a lot of specialties that are worth checking out. And you should absolutely spring for tater tots. They’re awesome.
ByGeorge Brewing
This is a great local brewery with a huge tap list and a lovely back patio. It’s an amazing place to chill after a full day of exploring the lakefront. There’s an attached deli that I’ve not had the pleasure of eating at, but I thoroughly enjoyed my evening on their patio, reading my book, nursing a tasting flight, and socializing with the locals. It’s an amazing place to hang out when you’re done exploring the park for the day, but don’t quite feel like going back to your hotel yet.
